The State government has informed the Madras High Court that a post in the cadre of Additional Secretary (Technical) in Housing and Urban Development Department has been created exclusively to hear the appeals filed under Tamil Nadu Town and Country Planning Act in matters related to regularisation and deviations in building constructions.
Additional Advocate General S.T.S. Moorthy made the submission before the First Bench of Acting Chief Justice Huluvadi G. Ramesh and Justice M. Sundar on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) petition moved by ‘Traffic’ K.R. Ramaswamy seeking action against illegal constructions in George Town and Sowcarpet areas in the city.
“A Chief Planner from CMDA will be appointed to the post to offer technical advice to Secretary, Housing and Urban Development Department on urban planning and development issues, land reclassification proposals and other proposals,” Mr. Moorthy said, while producing a copy of the government order dated March 3 notifying the creation of the post.

Recording the submission, the Bench posted the PIL to June 19, for further hearing.
