The Eureka Run aims at helping underprivileged children

Hundreds of joggers and runners of all age groups gathered at the Elliots Beach in Besant Nagar for the Eureka Run that was held on Sunday. The annual run is organised by Aid India to support the education of children belonging to the economically weaker sections of society.

Manikandan, a regular runner, said he had been participating in the event regularly and that he felt proud to be part of the programme.

The run was organised over distances of 2 km, 5 km and 10 km, with the first dedicated to children.

P.S. Gowri, project director, AID India, said a large number of people from all age groups participated.

She said that for the past 21 years, Aid India has been working on providing quality education to children in rural areas.

Over one lakh children in 1,100 villages and 800 schools in the State have benefitted from its initiatives.

Canara Bank chairman T.N. Manoharan flagged off the run in which actor Samuthirakani and retired Madras High Court judge K. Chandru participated.
