History-sheeter held in Esplanade

A 24-year old history-sheeter wanted in several chain snatching and waylaying cases, was arrested by the police in Esplanade on Saturday night.

According to the police, Vinodh alias ‘Paambu’ Vinodh is a resident of Pudupet. He is wanted for chain snatching by the railway police and Egmore police.

On Saturday at around 10 p.m., sub- inspectors Sivaramakrishnan and Velraj and constable Raghu were posted near Kuralagam as part of the ‘visible policing’ initiative introduced by city police commissioner S. George.

“The police spotted a man behaving suspiciously. When they asked him to stop, he tried to escape and entered an MTC bus. But the officers nabbed him and found that he was carrying a four-foot long dagger,” said K.N. Murali, assistant commissioner.

When the officers were trying to take him to the police station, he cut his neck with a blade. He was rushed to the government general hospital for treatment and discharged on Sunday morning.

“He was wanted by the Pudupet police in a chain-snatching case and they will be taking him into custody for the recovery of the jewellery,” Mr. Murali added.
