High-level meet tomorrow to finalise security measures for Modi-Xi summit

Palaniswami, OPS review Mamallapuram’s readiness for the bilateral interaction

A high-level meeting to discuss the security arrangements at Mamallapuram for the informal bilateral summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping will be held in Chennai on October 4.

Security provisions to be made on the air, sea and road fronts for the summit will be discussed and reviewed during the meeting, a source in the State government told The Hindu .

“We will be holding a meeting with officials of the Navy, the Coast Guard and the Air Force. Security will be strengthened on the water side (sea) and air side in and around the summit area,” the source said.

On Wednesday, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami reviewed the preparations for the summit, set to take place between October 11 and 13 in the coastal town, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The CM was accompanied by his deputy O. Panneerselvam, Ministers, Chief Secretary K. Shanmugam, DGP J.K. Tripathy and other officials.

They visited the Five Rathas, Arjuna’s Penance and the Shore Temple and reviewed arrangements at these locations, which are already under a heavy security blanket.

The PM and the Chinese President are likely to visit these locations during the summit.
