Compensation from state requested to the injured and for the families of those killed

Rahul Gandhi

The Madras High Court on Thursday ordered notices, returnable in four weeks, to the Centre as well as the State on a PIL petition seeking either a high-level or a judicial inquiry into security lapses during the visit of Congress president Rahul Gandhi to pay homage to DMK patriarch M. Karunanidhi at the Rajaji Hall here on August 8.

Advocate A.P. Suryaprakasam also sought a direction to the State to pay a compensation of ₹20 lakh to the families of each of those who had died on that day. He wanted compensation even to those who were injured because of alleged official failure in making proper arrangements for the people to pay their last respects.
