The duo was crossing the tracks near Pattabiram station and did not hear the EMU approaching

Two hearing-impaired men were run over by an electric train in Pattabiram on Sunday evening.

According to police, one of the victims was Koti (56), who lived with his family on Kandappan Street in Tiruvallur. He had retired recently after working as an office assistant at a government office.

On Sunday morning, he left home with his brother-in-law Veeramani, a resident of Thagilli Kottai Street in Tiruvallur, who was also hearing impaired.

The two had set out to distribute invitations for Koti’s son’s wedding. In the afternoon, they reached Pattabiram and at around 5.15 p.m., the two crossed the tracks.

A train heading from Chennai Central to Tiruvallur was passing then. “The two men did not hear the approaching and it ran over them,” said a government railway police officer.

The police identified them with the help of the invitation cards and other documents the two had on them. Their families were informed, and a case has been registered.
