The Madras High Court has allowed a petitioner to implead State Health Minister C. Vijayabhaskar in a case for allegedly helping an accused person avoid imprisonment by getting himself admitted in a government hospital.

Petitioner M. Manoharan of Mayiladuthurai submitted that G. Mohanakrishnan, arrested in connection with his son’s suicide, was avoiding imprisonment “with the support and backing” of the Minister.

When the petition came up for hearing on Friday, Justice M. Sathyanarayanan allowed the petitioner to implead the persons against whom allegations were levelled and further ordered issuance of notice of motion returnable by June 23.

The judge also directed authorities to place before the court medical reports and other connected reports and the details of Mohanakrishnan’s medical condition.

Mohanakrishnan was arrested on March 31 following the suicide of M. Tamilvanan, an advocate, and is presently admitted in the Government Hospital at Royapettah without any ailment, the petition stated. He managed to get himself admitted in the hospital’s ICU, the petitioner submitted.

He said a petition by the accused seeking medical facilities from hospital authorities had been dismissed by a single judge earlier this month after his medical records was perused.

The Sessions Court in Chengalpet too had dismissed his bail petition.
