November 12, 2013 09:06 am | Updated May 26, 2016 07:09 am IST - CHENNAI:

This was revealed after the police analysed laptop of youth arrested for hacking into AIADMK website

The youth who is suspected to have hacked into the official website of the AIADMK and was arrested, is now believed to have illegally entered various other government websites too.

In his confession to the police, the hacker, P. Eswaran, said he only intended to project the vulnerability of the ruling party’s website, which he said, needs a better firewall.

The 23-year-old suspect from Vyasarpadi who is an IT professional with a leading firm in Bangalore was arrested on Saturday. He was booked under section 66 of the IT Act for his numerous entries into unauthorised locations of the site www.aiadmkallindia.org.

Investigators have confiscated Eswaran’s laptop and a cyber crime team is examining the computer.

Police said he had made a number of attempts to enter crucial government and private websites using various hacking tools including the Back Track software which was found by investigators on his laptop. Further analysis of the laptop is on.

However, whether it was actually Eswaran who defaced the AIADMK site on Deepavali day claiming to be a Pakistani hacker group PHC, is still under investigation. A parallel investigation is also on to find out if a bigger group was involved in this.

Eswaran, who is now in Puzhal prison under judicial custody, is likely to be taken into police custody for questioning in the next few days, officers said. The AIADMK’s official website remains suspended.
