City police inspector S. Thomson, whose 19-year-old daughter Georgina was found dead under mysterious circumstances at the University of Liverpool on July 12, has refused to claim her body, demanding a thorough probe into her death.
Speaking to The Hindu from Liverpool on Friday evening, Mr. Thomson, who is with the JJ Nagar police station, said he was not satisfied with how matters had progressed so far.
“First the authorities told me it was a case of suicide but did not let me see her body until Wednesday. When I raised suspicions over the manner of the death, the coroner who is dealing with the case told me the death was due to unknown reasons. He also said that even if a probe was begun, it could take until September to determine the cause,” said Mr. Thomson, who is hopeful that local police in Liverpool will soon begin an investigation.

Even though the UK authorities have told him he can take his daughter’s body to India, Mr. Thomson has refused. “I have refused to take the body until all my questions have been answered,” he said.
Officials from the Indian Consulate in Birmingham have been assisting Mr. Thomson throughout the ordeal.
Georgina Thomson joined the university last year to pursue an undergraduate degree in aerospace engineering. On July 12, she allegedly committed suicide in her room in Edge Hill, on campus.
