Even as an appeal sought to confine admissions to medical colleges in Tamil Nadu this year to students who passed Plus Two examinations in May 2015, the State government said it would make clear its position in the Madras High Court on Friday.
When a writ appeal challenging a single judge’s order on the matter came up for hearing before a Division Bench comprising Justices Satish K. Agnihotri and M. Venugopal, the counsel appearing for the government D. Krishna Kumar submitted that he would get instruction from the government .
The appeal by C. Murugan, father of a student Kabhilan, referred to the single judge’s order on June 12 and said that officials had published random numbers for the MBBS/MDS admissions.

“It shows majority of the students passed out in the previous academic years would topple the students who had taken up the examination in 2014-2015. Proceeding with the Counselling without determining the issue on hand would work out hardship to all the participants as well as the State,” he said.
According to the petitioner, while a total of 2,808 medical seats were to be filled this academic year, a total of 4,679 students who passed Class 12 from previous years have applied for those seats.
Hearing a batch of petitions, which sought to sought to confine the admissions only to students who passed Class 12 exams in May this year, Justice M. Sathyanarayanan had on June 12 said that the admissions would be subject to the result of petitions.

Parents of several students in their petitions submitted that less number of students secured centum in major subjects during the latest Class 12 exams compared to last year and if students who passed the exams earlier were allowed to participate in the medical admissions, it would be a grave injustice to the former.
