Governor files defamation case against E.V.K.S. Elangovan

Tamil Nadu Governor K. Rosaiah on Wednesday moved a criminal defamation complaint against Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president E.V.K.S. Elangovan for allegedly making defamatory statements against him.

City Public Prosecutor M.L. Jegan filed the complaint on behalf of the Governor before the Principal District and Sessions Judge, Chennai.

In his complaint, Mr. Jegan alleged that Mr. Elangovan, in an interview to a private television channel, made defamatory remarks against the Governor in connection with the appointments made to the post of Vice-Chancellors of the State Universities.

The statements made by the Congress leader which was telecast on April 30 were absolutely false and without factual basis, Mr. Jegan claimed and submitted that the act amounts to criminal defamation punishable under section 500 of IPC.
