Gayathri tops TNPSC Group I examination

She scored 673.5 marks out of 1,020

K. Gayathri Subramani was nervous but at the same time determined that she would clear the Group I Examination conducted by the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) with good marks. And she did.

Ms. Gayathri topped the examination by scoring 673.5 marks out of 1,020. “I used to spend 12 to 14 hours a day to prepare for the tests,” she said.

A graduate in electronics and communication engineering, she is married to a city-based entrepreneur and has a child studying in class two.

“I always wanted to be a civil servant, but was waiting for the right time. In 2015, I decided to prepare for the TNPSC examination, and cleared it in my first attempt,” she said proudly. Ms. Gayathri owes all her success to her husband and family and of course her tutors who helped her crack the tests.

The second rank holder in the Group I examination is 26-year-old P. Mani Raj, a former design engineer in the city who gave up his job to pursue his dream of becoming a civil servant. “It took me around two years to prepare. I did it all by myself, except for personal interviews where I got help from Manidha Naeyam IAS Academy,” he said.

‘Interviews were tough’

“Most students needed help with interviews. They were confident about the rest and fared well. The interview panel this year had people from All India Services who were experts in their respective fields. The interviews were tough but we are sure that the candidates would have learnt a lot from the experience,” said Sam Rajeshwaran, co-ordinator Manidha Naeyam IAS Academy.

D. Dhanapriya from Namakkal and A.V.Surendran from Theni got third and fourth positions respectively.
