A commuter and three students were injured.

A group of college students armed with knives and stones brutally attacked students from another college inside an MTC bus on Tiruvottiyur High Road in Washermenpet on Thursday morning. Three students and an elderly woman passenger, who was caught in the altercation, were injured.

The incident took place around 9.30 a.m. when the bus on route number 6 D (Tolgate to Thiruvanmiyur) reached a stop near Pandian cinema hall and was boarded by a group of over 15 students. “Once the bus started moving, they assaulted some persons in the packed vehicle and women onboard began to scream for help. Some of the assailants brandished knives and the rest had sticks and stones,” said Gomathi from Manali, who was waiting for another bus at the stop.

“The group beat up three boys and disembarked after warning them,” she added.
