Four held in Chennai for school girl’s death

Four persons, including a school correspondent, have been arrested in connection with the death of a six-year-old girl in Chennai, police said.

The girl was run over by the rear wheels of her schoolbus, after she slipped through a hole on the floor of the vehicle, at Mudichur near Tambaram on Wednesday.

Besides the correspondent, those arrested include the bus driver and two others. All of them have been remanded to judicial custody.

The school has been closed down today.

Jayalalithaa orders action

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa has ordered stern action against those operating defective school buses.

Ms Jayalalithaa expressed her deep grief at the girl’s death and announced a solatium of Rs. one lakh to her family.

“I have ordered the police and school education authorities to take severe action against those who are responsible for operating a defective vehicle as school bus on a lease,” she said.
