The accused have flown from Delhi to Chennai to commit the crime

Police have apprehended four youths who flew down from Delhi to allegedly commit chain-snatchings here. Two motorcycles which were transported by train from Delhi by them have been seized.

Police sources identified those arrested as Om Singh (26) of Delhi, Somu Sekhar Gupta (25) of Uttar Pradesh, Sonni (29) of Madhya Pradesh and Prahlath Singh (25) of Haryana.

Om and Somu were caught by members of the public on Saturday night here when they were trying to flee, on a motorcycle, after snatching a six sovereign chain from Shalini, a resident of Govardhan Street, Royapettah. The men were handed over to the Zam Bazaar police station, sources added.

“The duo claimed that they had come to watch the IPL cricket match and did not reveal any further information about their trip to the city. They had a room key, which we identified as that of a room in a mansion in Triplicane,” an investigating officer said.

A police team went to the mansion and found their accomplices, Sonni and Prahlath.

Questioning revealed that the four youths had come to Chennai by air on May 24 after shipping two motorcycles (one with Haryana and other with Delhi registration number plates) to Chennai by train, the officer added.
