EVKS warns leaders against skipping meetings

April 22, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - CHENNAI:

Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) chief E.V.K.S. Elangovan, on Tuesday warned that action would be initiated as per AICC rules against those staying away from party executive committee meetings.

The warning assumes significance given that former Union Finance Minister, P. Chidambaram, skipped the meeting on Tuesday despite peace talks between the warring factions last week.

However, Mr. Elangovan said Mr. Chidambaram and his son and AICC member, Karti Chidambaram, informed him of their inability to attend the meeting since they were not in Chennai.

To oppose BJP, AIADMK

The committee adopted a resolution reiterating its commitment to oppose the BJP government at the Centre and the AIADMK government policies in Tamil Nadu. The Congress would initiate a strong campaign against the two governments, the resolution said. The party will also take out a rally to the Governor’s office soon demanding the dismissal of the “corrupt” AIADMK government.

When asked about accusations that he was not being critical of the DMK at all, Mr. Elangovan said the Dravidian party was not the ruling party.
