Two brothers died after being run over by a suburban EMU train at Perungalathur on the outskirts of Chennai on Friday morning. Another brother is battling for life at the hospital.
The government railway police from Tambaram said Sakthivel (60), Jayachandran (57) and Chandrashekar (55), from Rajapalayam in Virudhunagar district, arrived at Perungalathur by bus.
From Perungalathur, they wanted to take a train to Egmore to attend a function.

When they were crossing the tracks near Perungalathur railway station, a train from Chennai Beach to Chengalpet knocked them down. Sakthivel and Jayachandran died on the spot.
Chandrashekar, who suffered serious injuries, was rushed to Rajiv Gandhi General Hospital where doctors said his condition was critical.
The bodies of Sakthivel and Jayachandran were sent for postmortem at Tambaram Taluk Government Hospital at Chromepet. GRP Tambaram registered a case and are investigating .

This incident caused a minor disruption of rail traffic between Tambaram and Chengalpet.
With no other alternate routes, residents of Peerkankaranai and Perungalathur said the closure of LC-32 poses a great risk.
Many residents and bus commuters had to lean under the barricades put up by the Railaways to reach the station from both side of the roads.
Peerkankaranai Town Panchayat chairman A.V. Sampathkumar, said that they have upraised their plight to the railway officials on the importance of providing a temporary foot over bridge to connect the residential localities with railway platforms and GST Road, so that the accidents could be minimised.
He told The Hindu that the railway officials commenced their work without taking the residents problems into consideration.
