Elderly woman found murdered in Pammal

A 72-year-old woman was found murdered in Pammal near Tambaram on Saturday night.

Shankar Nagar police, who are investigating the case, said Evan Fernandes living in the first floor of a house on Gandhi Street, Anna Nagar in Pammal.

Her younger sister Janet Fernandes was living in the ground floor. Ms. Evan Fernandes used to come to her sister’s portion on the ground floor for dinner. As she did turn up for dinner till 11 p.m., Ms. Janet Fernandes went up to Ms. Evan Fernandes’ portion and found her lying on the floor, unconscious.

On Ms. Janet information, Shankar Nagar police reached the spot and took Ms. Evan Fernandes to Tambaram Taluk Government Hospital in Chromepet, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Shankar Nagar police are questioning a man, who was last seen by the victim’s younger sister when he came out of her house. The man was working as Ms. Evan Fernandes’ domestic help for a long time and was sacked by her more than a year ago as he had indulged in a theft at her home. He was subsequently jailed for the crime.

Police said, after coming out of prison, he visited Ms. Evan Fernandes a couple of time and requested her to take him back.
