Relief is around the corner for most parts of the State that have been experiencing dry weather for the past few days. Rainfall activity may resume across Tamil Nadu from Saturday, according to Meteorological Department.
The deep depression over east-central and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into cyclonic storm by early hours of Thursday and further intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by Friday. It is expected to be called ‘Bulbul’, a name given by Pakistan.
However, it may not have a direct impact over Tamil Nadu as it is likely to move towards West Bengal and Bangladesh coasts, said officials.

During the past 24 hours ending 8.30 a.m. on Wednesday, none of the weather stations across the State registered rainfall.
N.Puviarasan, director, Area Cyclone Warning Centre, Chennai said another trough is expected to form under the influence of the weather system that exists in the Bay of Bengal.
The trough may bring rainfall over the State.

He also said the smog conditions would persist for two or three days. Noting that it was a local phenomenon in Chennai, he said it was not prevalent in other parts of the State.
Moreover, smog covered the city only during mornings. The light northerly wind blowing at lower level led to accumulation of dust pollution.
