The carcasses of 10 dogs, buried after being allegedly poisoned to death, were exhumed from the premises of a private engineering college near Padappai in Kancheepuram district on Tuesday afternoon.
Blue Cross volunteers visited the premises of Rrase College in Vanjuvanchery village, about 20 kilometres from Tambaram, after receiving information that dogs were buried there. The volunteers exhumed the carcasses and took them to Tamil Nadu Animal Sciences and Veterinary University, Vepery, for autopsy.
In their complaint to the Manimangalam police, the volunteers alleged that a group of men from Baluchettichathiram had poisoned the dogs and buried them behind the college buildings, near the Vanjuvanchery lake. A case under provisions of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act has been registered at Manimangalam. A spokesperson from the college said students had complained of nuisance caused by dogs entering the college, but denied they had killed the dogs or hired outsiders.
