DMK finalises seats for IUML and MMK

April 09, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:31 am IST - Chennai:

The DMK, which has finalised seat-sharing arrangement with its allies, allocated Vaniyambadi, Kadayanallur, Poompuhar, Villupuram and Manapparai to the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML).

“The fight would be tough particularly in Vaniyambadi and Kadayanallur as all political parties will field Muslim candidates as these constituencies have a substantial Muslim population. But we will win,” said IUML leader Kader Mohideen.

The party is keen on contesting in Villupuram constituency where it held its state conference recently.

“We also have won from the Poompuhar constituency in the past. Manapparai was also in our preference list,” he said. Incidentally, DMK heavyweight in the region K. Ponmudy is likely to switch over from Villupuram to Thirukovilur constituency. He was defeated in the 2011 election.

The Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (MMK) has been given Ramanathapuram, Ambur, Nagapattinam, Thondamuthur and Ulundurpet.

The party won in Ramanathapuram and Ambur constituencies in the 2011 Assembly polls as part of the AIADMK alliance and the former is represented by its leader M.H. Jawahirullah.
