Creating awareness on lifestyle diseases

In commemoration of World Diabetes Day, which falls on November 14, M.V. Centre for Diabetes, Royapuram, launched ‘Diabetes Care on Wheels,’ a community outreach programme, to create awareness on diabetes and its complications. The vehicle will be stationed at strategic locations in the city.

Human chain

A human chain was formed to create awareness about the threat of lifestyle diseases and emphasise on the theme for this year ‘Protect our Future,’ instituted by the United Nations.

The theme emphasised on the need for action to guard against diabetes and other lifestyle diseases by engaging millions of people to spread awareness on diabetes and its preventive and corrective measures.

On the occasion, Vijay Viswanathan, Managing Director, M.V. Hospital for Diabetes and Prof. M. Viswanathan Diabetes Research Centre said, “We have to take care of our lifestyle and health. The ‘Diabetes Care on Wheels’ programme will cover residential apartments, impart education on diabetes to the public and conduct tests for diabetes at a subsidised cost.”

Inspector General S.P. Sharma, TM, PTM, Commander, Coast Guard Region (East), Dy. Inspector General Gurupdesh Singh, TM, Chief of Staff, Coast Guard Region (East), Dy. Inspector General B.K. Loshali, Chief Staff Officer (P&A),CGR (East), Dy. Inspector General Shri R.D. Shedbalkar, Chief Staff Officer (Tech.) CGR (East), doctors from M.V. Center for Diabetes, and people from different walks of life took pledge to render support to create awareness on diabetes.

A 60-second film on lifestyle disease, written and directed by Tamil actor and director Vijay Adhiraj, was released by M.V. Centre for Diabetes.
