Collection agent robbed

In a daring robbery in Anna Nagar on Monday afternoon, four armed men attacked a collection agent and fled with his bag containing over Rs. 25 lakh.

Thirumangalam police said the victim Kamalakannan (28) of Annanur near Avadi, is an employee of a Royapettah-based agency which deals in the depositing of collections of business establishments in the respective banks. Kamalakannan, on Monday, collected Rs. 25 lakh from various shops in Nolambur and Mugappair and was heading to another shop in Anna Nagar on his motorcycle.

Around 1.30 p.m., when Kamalakannan was passing through H block, two men on a motorcycle collided with his vehicle. As he fell on the road, two men on another motorcycle coming from behind attacked Kamalakannan with knives, injuring him on his shoulder and back. The gang then snatched his bag containing the cash and fled, the police said.

The police was alerted and a team from the Thirumangalam police station reached the spot. Kamalakannan’s statement was recorded at a private hospital nearby, where he was admitted for treatment.

According to Commissioner of Police S. George, there are specific leads in the case. “We have identified some of the suspects involved in the crime. We will apprehend them in a day or two and recover the stolen money,” Mr. George added.
