An Implementation Committee headed by Justice (retd) A. Ramamurthi has submitted before the Madras High Court that in spite of its earlier directions, the Chennai Corporation and police officials have failed to implement orders with regard to unauthorised hawkers on NSC Bose Road here.
“A number of communications were sent to the Corporation as well as the Commissioner of Police to evict unauthorised hawkers who are hawking even in evicted places,” the committee said. The committee's communication dated March 14 to the Advocate-General, A. Navaneethakrishnan, pursuant to an order passed by the Madras High Court on March 9, on a contempt petition filed by social activist, K. Ramaswamy alias `Traffic' Ramaswamy, has been filed before the court.
The Bench comprising Chief Justice M.Y. Eqbal and Justice T.S. Sivagnanam, has adjourned the matter by six weeks to enable the government to file a counter.
