June 13, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - CHENNAI:

The Madras High Court on Friday summoned the Chief Electoral Officer to appear before it in connection with the election petition filed by Saidai Duraisamy, challenging the election of DMK leader M.K. Stalin from the Kolathur Assembly constituency in 2011.

When the matter came up for hearing on Friday, Justice M. Venugopal directed the Chief Electoral Officer to appear in the court on June 19.

In his petition, Mr. Duraisamy levelled various allegations against Mr. Stalin, including that he indulged in “corrupt practices” during the counting of votes in 2011 Assembly polls and further sought to declare Mr. Stalin’s election as null and void.
