Over 250 college students who stood at 25 petrol bunks over the past month and urged motorists not to honk unnecessarily as part of a ‘Voice against noise’ campaign for tractor manufacturer Tafe were felicitated at a function in the city on Tuesday.
Students from Ethiraj College for Women, Stella Maris College, MOP Vaishnav College for Women and Loyola College reached out to motorists with bookmarks, posters and stickers.
Classmates S. Suganya, M. Poornima, R. Gayathri S.F. Aysha Abshan and V. Vinothini of Ethiraj College shared their experience during the campaign at a prize-giving ceremony on Tuesday.

Prizes were given to those who participated in a poster contest organised as part of the campaign.
D. Mahesh Kumar, deputy commissioner of police (traffic-north), who gave away the prizes, said: “Though air horns are banned, they are still used in omni buses and other heavy vehicles.” The department was actively identifying and fining those who used it.
T.R. Kesavan, COO (product strategy and corporate relations), Tafe, said he was amazed to see the response from the students.
