Chennai Trail Marathon, a huge success

The scenic Sholavaram tank near Red Hills formed the perfect background for running enthusiasts from all over South India to take part in an early morning run.

Over 1,000 runners, including those from abroad, participated in the run around the Sholavaram tank that has a 10-km running track. The event was organised by Chennai Trekking Club (CTC) — the fourth edition of its Chennai Trail Marathon (CTM).

One of the most challenging and scenic marathons, the trail took runners across scenic lakes, lush green forests, grasslands, small villages and scenic paddy fields.

The participants took part in a 21-km (half marathon), 42-km (marathon) and 50-km (ultra), the organisers said.

The marathon is part of the CTC’s ongoing drive to spread awareness of a more active and healthy lifestyle through sports. More than 100 volunteers worked hard behind the scenes to organise this run.

One of the main objectives of the CTC is to reconnect people with nature and bring out the best in people through adventure and endurance activities, organisers added.
