Shortly after being pulled up by the Madras High Court, the State government transferred the investigation into the >murder of Infosys employee S. Swathi to the city police from the Government Railway Police.
A special team, led by the Nungambakkam Assistant Commissioner of Police, has been formed to probe the case.
On Monday, appalled over an alleged statement made by the Commissioner of Police, Chennai, published in an English news daily that though railway stations were out of the jurisdiction of the city police, he had offered help to the railway police in investigating the murder at the Nungambakkam station, a Division Bench of Justices S. Nagamuthu and V. Bharadhidasan suo motu summoned the public prosecutor and sought a clarification.

The Bench wanted the prosecutor to clarify whether there was any lack of coordination between the city police and the railway police. The judges noted that since there was little development in the investigation of the case, they were compelled to seek clarification.
Later, during the post-lunch session, public prosecutor S. Shanmugavelayutham informed the court that the investigation had been transferred to a special team of city police headed by Assistant Commissioner of Police K.P.S. Devaraj. He would be assisted by the cyber crime department and the CB-CID. The court said it would continue to monitor the probe for a couple of more days.
