Chennai Smart City Limited invites corporate companies to support restoration of 32 waterbodies

March 23, 2018 04:15 pm | Updated 04:15 pm IST

One of the pan-city projects under Chennai Smart Mission involves restoration and beautification of 208 waterbodies maintained by Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC).

A majority of these are small waterbodies, generally ponds.

Chennai Smart City Limited (CSCL), a special purpose vehicle established to execute smart-city projects, is looking at the possibility of brining corporates on board the waterbodies restoration programme.

“We want corporate houses to come forward and contribute to the restoration and maintenance of these waterbodies as part of their CSR activities,” says Raj Cherubal, chief executive officer, CSCL. Residents can also be involved in the exercise. They can help GCC serve as a monitoring group, he adds.

“Work on 32 of these Corporation-maintained waterbodies will begin soon,” says Cherubal. For details, write to outreach@cscl.co.in.

These 32 waterbodies are located in Zone 1 and Zone 2 of GCC: Vadaperumbakkam pond, Vadaperumbakkam pond, Chettimedu SakthiammanKoil pond, Thathaakuzhi Kulam, Vembuliamman Koil pond, Kanniamman Koil street pond, Kamarajapuram pond, Kosapur pond,
