Chennai schools send out conflicting messages

September 20, 2012 02:14 am | Updated November 17, 2021 11:13 am IST - CHENNAI:

Despite the education department clarifying that schools will function on Thursday and exams held as scheduled, parents in the city remained confused as schools sent contradicting messages.

Most schools had initally told parents that Thursday would be a holiday and that the exam scheduled on Thursday will be held on Friday. Later, after the announcement by the government, they sent another message announcing that they will function but providing no information about exams.

While most schools including Sankara Vidyalaya, SBOA (Anna Nagar), Bala Vidya Mandir, Don Bosco, C.S.I Ewarts among others asked parents to send their children to schools on Thursday, a few said they would be closed, and many did not say anything about the exam.

Many parents on the other hand, were relieved that the exams were being held as per schedule as travel plans would not be disrupted.

A teacher of a government school in Vepery however said “class X students with the common exam going on are tense. It could have been better if the confusion was avoided.”

K Devarajan said there was no reason for parents to get confused as the department had already issued notices to schools directing them to function normally.
