Chennai Region has secured a pass percentage of 90.59 in the Class XII examination of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), a marginal 0.73 percentage point decrease from last year.
Girls recorded a pass percentage of 92.67, while boys secured 88.87 per cent. Declaring the results at the CBSE's regional office here on Monday, regional officer D.T. Sudharshan Rao said a total of 7,809 students from Tamil Nadu took the examination this year.
The pass percentage in the State was 95.57, behind Goa, Karnataka and Puducherry that secured 97.21 per cent, 96.46 per cent and 95.98 per cent respectively.

Tamil Nadu's pass percentage last year was 96.84. The State has a total of 112 schools affiliated to the CBSE. Chennai has 67 CBSE schools
The CBSE does not release an official rank list of students or toppers. “As a policy, CBSE does not rank students based on their scores. In New Delhi, it shares details of relative performance of each of the regions to help us get a national picture,” said Mr. Rao.
The Board, he said, was doing its best to reduce anxiety and stress levels among students. Initiatives such as an optional board examination in class X and the introduction of the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) system upto class X were steps taken in that regard.

So far, two batches of class X students have had the option of taking the school-based or Board-based examination. The first batch coming out of the CCE pattern will take the class XII examination in the coming academic year.
Chennai region has outdone other regions this year too, as it did last year. As many as 67,707 students in the region took the examination, comprising 36,923 boys and 30,784 girls.
The region comprises 10 states and union territories – Andhra Pradesh, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Daman & Diu, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshwadeep, Maharashtra, Puducherry and Tamil Nadu.
Students who wish to apply for the compartment examination to be held on July 16 need to apply before June 22. Students applying after that could do so until June 30, with a fine of Rs.10 per day.
