A polytechnic student died after he was shot by his friend at his residence in Venkatamangalam near Thalambur in Kancheepuram district.

According to initial reports, the victim has been identified as Mukesh, student of a private polytechnic and resident of Bajanai Koil street in Venkatamangalam.

He was talking to friends in one of the rooms in his house while his brothers were at home too. Hearing a sudden thud, family members rushed to his room even as one of his friends Vijay ran from the spot.

Police said a country made gun was used by the assailant to shoot Mukesh in his head. The victim, who was profusedly bleeding, was rushed to a private medical college hospital. From there, he was rushed to Government Chrompet Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
