: In yet another instance of violence targeted at senior citizen in the city, Rohini Premkumari (67), a well-known oncologist, was found murdered at her home in Egmore.

Dr. Rohini was apparently hit on her head with an iron rod, and her hands and legs were tied with a rope; her mouth was closed with a medical tape, according to police officials investigating the case. The officials said Dr. Rohini was found unconscious at the garden of her home by her family friend Parameswaran, who was also a former compounder at her clinic. “Around 10.30 a.m. on Sunday, her mother Subhadra Nair (88), who can barely walk, was waiting for her food. When there was no response to her calls to Rohini, she called Mr. Parameswaran to come and check,” police said. Ms. Subhadra Nair is a former doctor with Corporation of Chennai. There were grave injuries on the back of her head, caused by an iron rod, police said.

The victim’s relatives alleged that Dr. Rohini had an argument a few days ago with a contractor who had reportedly overcharged her for refurbishing her basement. “We are investigating the murder from all possible angles and special crime teams have been formed to trace the assailant,” police said. Dr. Rohini’s body was taken to Government Royapettah Hospital later in the day.
