Chennai Metrowater gets more equipment

More equipment has been added to the infrastructure of Chennai Metrowater to maintain sewer lines in the city.

On Monday, minister for municipal administration , rural development, law, courts and jails Munusamy, distributed different types of machines worth a total of Rs. 6.75 crore to clean and maintain sewer lines. These machines will be used to desilt the sewerage network K.P. in Tondiarpet, Royapuram, Thiru.Vi.Ka. Nagar, Ambattur, Anna Nagar, Teynampet, Kodambakkam and Adyar.

While the jetting cum suction machines will be used to remove blocks and silt in the sewer lines, jetrodding machines will remove blocks and prevent overflow. Super sucker machines will clear the silt accumulated in pipelines and desilting machines can remove silt deposited in manholes that are up to 32 feet deep, said a press release.

With these 23 machines, Chennai Metrowater now has a total of 303 machines to clean and maintain sewer lines spanning a distance of over 2,700 km across the city.
