Southern Railway is studying the feasibility of starting a state-run ‘Amma’ Pharmacy in Chennai Central Railway station.
Chennai Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Anupam Sharma said this during an interaction with reporters on Wednesday. He was responding to a question on the lack of pharmacies in Central station. “We are looking into the issue. As of now, we have tied up with a private hospital for the ambulance service,” he said.
Railway Board Member (Electrical) Navin Tandon, who made an inspection of the railway station, was also present. Earlier, Mr. Tandon inaugurated the first unreserved coach to have 18 mobile charging points. Mr. Tandon said that the Railways will be adding 1,000 MW of solar and 170 MW of wind power in the next 3-5 years across India. He said level crossings would also be used to generate 200 MW.

Southern Railway GM Ashok. K. Agarwal said they were planning to use the corporate social responsibility funds of Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd., the engineering PSU of Indian Railways, to improve passenger amenities at Chennai Central . “This is part of the Passenger Facilitation Fortnight held from May 26-June 9,” he said.
