Chennai building collapse toll rises to 11

19 people have been rescued and are undergoing treatment at the Sri Ramachandra Medical College.

The death toll in the building collapse in Chennai rose to 11 with the retrieval of seven more bodies by Sunday afternoon.The victims included including three women. A total of 19 people have been rescued and are undergoing treatment at the Sri Ramachandra Medical College.

Through the rescue operations, which went on through Saturday night, seven more bodies were retrieved from the debris by Sunday afternoon. Among the victims, 10 were labourers on the site. One person, Ganesh (38), died when the building collapsed on his house, which was in the adjoining street, the Fire and Rescue teams said.

The bodies were taken to the Government Royapettah Hospital for Postmortem. Six of the seven people taken to the GRH have been identified, while one woman construction worker is yet to be identified.

On Saturday evening, a building under construction 'Trust Heights' at Moulivakkam near Porur on the Kundrathur Main Road collapsed following heavy rain in the city.
