Students help NGO with Rs. 2 lakh

The Interact club of Bala Vidya Mandir donated Rs. 2 lakh towards the day-care centre and oncopathology lab of Udhavum Ullangal, a charitable trust in Tirunelveli.

The money was handed over to B. Sankar Mahadevan, founder of Udhavum Ullangal, at a function held on Monday, a release said. The donation was part of the Joy of Giving week.

Udhavum Ullangal is involved in providing cancer care to people in rural areas, where care is limited.

According to the release, in many villages, people continue to be unaware of the risks of cancer and the risks of leaving it untreated. They are also not aware that cancer is curable.

Set up in 2011, Udhavum Ullangal has been guided by the Cancer Institute (WIA). It has created awareness among 20,000 persons, and screened 8753.
