The entrepreneur guidance programme organised by the District Industries Centre on Tuesday for the workers who opted for the voluntary retirement scheme offered by the erstwhile management of Nokia has received a good response.
Several candidates, who were selected through ‘job melas’ conducted by the company with assistance from government machinery on a regular basis from 2006-07 up to 2009-10 in Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Vellore and Tiruvannamalai districts, have been left in the lurch. Some of them were drawing salaries between Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 20,000 per month when they opted for the VRS scheme offered by the company.
Shanthi of Kancheepuram, who said that her family had been pushed into a financial crisis after she left the job, was among the many in a similar situation.

Project Officer, District Rural Development Agency, N.Arul Jothi Arasan told reporters that 1,884 persons were invited to attend the workshop.
