The organs of a 26-year-old brain-dead man were harvested at Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre on Thursday night.
According to a press release, M. Vivekanandan, from Chidambaram, was admitted to the hospital on June 10 with hypertension and brainstem haemorrhaging. He was declared brain dead on Thursday night, and his parents gave their consent for his organs being harvested.
His heart was given to Fortis Malar Hospital, the liver to Global Hospital and one kidney to Billroth Hospital. Another kidney was transplanted to a matching, waitlisted patient at the centre.
