A ‘farewell’ to social evils

Aam Aadmi Party candidate Gnani’s campaign organised a funeral for various social ills

The Aam Aadmi Party’s Alandur Assembly by-election candidate Gnani on Sunday organised a ‘funeral procession’ of five political evils that have taken grip of the State.

The procession, which was part of his election campaign, saw four women volunteers carrying a coffin with the five evils — corruption, family rule, arrogant administration, religious forces and liquor policy.

The procession, that began at Jayalakshmi Theatre, Adambakkam, ended at Ambedkar ground, where Mr. Gnani, in a public address, made a stinging attack on the DMK, AIADMK, Congress and other political parties — which he termed as “Xerox” parties — accusing them of taking the State backward. He wanted people to throw these parties out of the State and exhorted voters of the Alandur constituency to vote for him to bring a change that could be a precursor for the election in 2016.
