Two men succumbed on Tuesday, to injuries sustained in a road accident on Monday afternoon, on Velachery Main Road in Medavakkam.
St. Thomas Mount traffic police (investigation) personnel said S. Prabhakaran (33) and G. Anandan (22) resided in Lakshmi Nagar in Mudichur, near Tambaram.
After meeting a friend, they were returning home on a Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle. Anandan, who was riding the 150-cc motorcycle (TN 22 CX 6438), lost control of it while taking a sharp left curve.

The motorcycle hit the median and both men fell on the road, landing on their heads, according to Sampath, an eye witness.
Traffic police on duty around Medavakkam along with residents summoned a government ambulance that rushed them to Tambaram Taluk Government Hospital in Chromepet. They were then referred to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai, where the two men succumbed to their injuries on Tuesday morning.
Prabhakaran is survived by his wife and their two children. Anandan was unmarried. Both men were out of jobs and were looking for work. Staff at a petrol bunk near the site of the accident said the curves in both directions — towards Tambaram as well as towards Velachery — were very sharp and not a day passed without at least a minor accident.

A local grocer pointed to the dents on the median caused by speeding vehicles while negotiating the sharp curve.
Traders around the accident site that in the absence of even basic safety features like a speedbreaker, barricades or even a warning sign, the spot had witnessed several accidents.
Accumulation of silt on the road margins added to the hazards. As an immediate measure, barricades should be placed to keep a check on speeding and rash driving, they said.
