Passengers stranded as Chennai MRTS services take a hit

A senior official of the Southern Railway said that train services were stopped due to disruption in power supply in Pallavaram for more than two hours from 4.45 a.m. to 7.25 a.m

Several commuters on the Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) between Chennai Beach and Velachery were left stranded on Monday morning for more than two hours due to cancellation of train services. Similarly, train services on the Chennai Beach-Tambaram route also suffered from delay.

At the Chintadripet station office-goers having waited for more than an hour in vain left the station complaining about station officials for not making any announcement about the reason for delay and when the train services would be operated.

A senior official of the Southern Railway said that train services were stopped due to disruption in power supply in Pallavaram for more than two hours from 4.45 a.m. to 7.25 a.m. The railway official said train services on the MRTS section was operated after 7.30 a.m. with minimum delay. Whereas an official at the Velachery Railway Station said that 10 services on the up and down routes were cancelled because of electricity tripping.

Some of ‘enterprising’ people with baggage on their heads and unmindful of the risk were seen walking on the tracks to reach Park Town station.
