Nearly 28 years after a letter bomb claimed his eyesight, music director Ganesh (of the Shankar-Ganesh duo) got his vision restored through an advanced surgical technique conducted at Dr. Agarwal’s Eye hospital, recently.

Director Ganesh shot to fame in 1964. In 1986, a mail bomb injured his eyes and hands. “My vision was blurred. I could not see colours clearly,” says Mr. Ganesh. He underwent a surgery then and the lens in his eyes was removed. But an artificial lens was not placed as there was no support to keep it.

“I came to Dr. Amar Agarwal for a check-up and he told me there was a lot of scarring on the cornea,” says Mr. Ganesh. Three weeks ago, Mr. Ganesh underwent glued intra-ocular lens (IOL) procedure, commonly undertaken on persons with serious eye injury, especially victims of bomb blasts and cracker explosions, and those born of consanguineous marriages.

“After the operation, Mr. Ganesh could see clearly from the very next day and the healing process was fast,” says Dr. Agarwal.

In a manner fitting a music director, Mr. Ganesh composed a song in praise of Dr. Agarwal and also conferred a title, ‘Kan oli thantha karunai’ (embodiment of compassion who gave vision), on him.
