In less than a month, the city will witness the presentation of a classical dance-drama on the Mahabharatha, but, set to the tone of a Broadway production. And, among the audience will be children from the Spastics Society of Tamil Nadu. ‘Yagnaseni’, a retelling of the epic from Draupadi’s perspective, is an effort by musician and dancer R. Muralidharan and dancer Uma Murali in aid of the Spastics Society of Tamil Nadu.
“Using dance, movement and any such art form is a complementary as well as supplementary therapeutic intervention for children with disabilities,” said L.V. Jayashree, director of the society. Mr. Muralidharan, director, ‘Yagnaseni’ said that this performance is inspired by Broadway productions. Ms. Uma, who will play Draupadi, has worked with the children at Spastics Society.
Musicians Rajesh Vaidhya, Embar Kannan and Kesavan are among those who have contributed. The profits would go to the Society. The performance will be held at Sri Mutha Venkatasubba Rao at Chetpet on May 17 at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.
