New app to track margazhi season

This music season, track your favourite artistes and their performances with the help of a mobile application.

‘TCS Sarigama Madrasil Margazhi’, a free mobile app developed by Tata Consultancy Services, helps music lovers create their own calendars and figure out the way to venues and concerts.

The app was launched at the inauguration of 35 Isai Iyal Nataka Vizha and 26 Bharatham Festival hosted by Sri Thyaga Brahma Gana Sabha in the city on Tuesday.

Sri Vijayendra Saraswathi, who inaugurated the festival, also gave away ‘Vani Kala Sudhakara’ awards to six renowned personalities.

Shanmukha Priya and Hari Priya popularly known as Priya sisters (vocal), Kadri Gopalnath (saxophone), V. Kamalakar Rao (mridangam), Leela Samson (bharathanatyam) and R. Neelakantan popularly known as ‘Neelu’(theatre) were conferred the awards comprising a cash prize of Rs. one lakh.

Lauding the efforts of the Sabha, Meena Muthiah, secretary and correspondent of Chettinad Vidyashram, said it provided opportunities for artistes to explore various art forms.

Pankaj Sharma, general manager, Union Bank of India, G. Rita, general manager, State Bank of India, music critic Gowri Ramnarayan and the Sabha’s president Deccan N. Krishnamoorthy also spoke.

Tamil Isai festival

Carnatic musician Seerkazhi G Sivachidambaram and Thiruvidaimaruthur S. Sambantha Desigar will be honoured at a function organised by Tamil Isai Sangam.

Dr. Sivachidambaram is the 59 Isai Perarignar awardee and will be felicitated at the inauguration of the annual Tamil Isai festival at Rajah Annamalai hall on December 21. Mr. Sambantha Desigar will receive the Pann Isai Peraringnar award.

The Sangam will also honour L.P. Kr. Ramanathan Chettiar for his contribution to Pann Isai as the secretary of the Pann Research Committee. Madras High Court judge S. Nagamuthu is expected to participate on the occasion.
