Thread and Tread, (tailoring unit) a self-help project was launched at Madras Christian College, East Tambaram, by its Centre for Women’s Studies, on November 29. The Centre, which has been involved in academic and outreach programmes for the past two decades, launched the unit to offer job opportunities to its students and help the campus community.
Reverend C.S.E. Ross offered the opening prayer and dedicated the new unit. Mekala Rajan, Co-ordinator, of the Centre, welcomed the gathering and Principal R.W. Alexander Jesudasan and Bursar C. Sundaraj lauded the Centre for the initiative. Representatives from the 1983 batch of students, Isaac Mathew, Sujatha Paulose, Sonya Devaraj and Joe Prabhakar donated the sewing machines and inaugurated the project. This year, the Centre had also introduced the “Manna Scheme” (mid-day meals) for the needy. Ann Stevens, Dean of Women Students and Associate Coordinator of the Centre, thanked the donors and the participants for their valuable support.

MCC, which hosted an inter-college T20 cricket tournament as part of the 175 year celebrations, lifted the tournament, beating Loyola College in the finals. Restricting MCC to 68, Loyola managed to score only 65 runs. At the valedictory function R.S. Rangaraja, a former student of the Department of Political Science of the college, was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of Mr. Jesudasan. S. Aswanth and Sarvesh Sasi, bagged the best bowler and best batsman prize respectively, a note from the college said.
