Gold jewels weighing 20 sovereigns were stolen from a house in Sithalapakkam near Tambaram. The burglary came to light on Tuesday morning when neighbours saw the broken locks on the door of the house belonging to Sadasivam in Venus Colony.

Sadasivam had left home on Monday evening to visit his daughter in Tambaram. On Tuesday morning, his neighbours informed him about the incident. He has complained to Pallikaranai police station that gold jewels weighing 20 sovereigns were burgled from his house.

Hit and run case

A young motorcyclist knocked down a senior citizen and later escaped under the pretext of going along with the victim to the hospital.

The police said Murugesan, working in a private company, was hit by the motorcyclist while he was crossing Mambakkam Main Road near the Medavakkam Village Panchayat office. Passers-by summoned a government ambulance and Murugesan was taken to Tambaram Taluk Government Hospital at Chromepet.

The youth told the para-medical staff as well as eye-witnesses that he would accompany the vehicle and take care of the injured man. However, he did not reach the hospital. Meanwhile, doctors pronounced Murugesan dead on arrival at the hospital.

Fire incident

Ramaiah (60), who sustained critical burn injuries when his hut caught fire on Wednesday evening, succumbed to injuries on Friday. Pallikaranai police said Ramaiah sustained injuries when his thatched hut caught fire on Wednesday evening at Azhagiri Street. He was admitted to the Burns Ward of Kilpauk Medical College Hospital.

Electrocuted

A 34-year-old Sri Lankan national was electrocuted at Tambaram on Thursday morning. Yogalingam was staying with a friend in a rented house on Mudichur Road. On Thursday morning, he turned on a switch, carrying a bucketful of water in his other hand, when he was electrocuted. A leakage from a faulty plug point caused the accident, Tambaram police said.
