Gold seized at Chennai Airport

A 32-year-old Indian national, who arrived at Chennai airport from Singapore on Sunday evening, was arrested by Customs authorities, when he attempted to smuggle 23 kg of gold. The seized gold was valued at Rs 6.7 crore. Chandwani of Mumbai, a private airline staff, arrived by an Air India Express flight from Singapore around 4 p.m. On suspicion, Customs officers intercepted him and checked his hand baggage. They found 23 gold bars, each weighing one kg, in the bag. The authorities arrested him.
