Centre to consider release of stamp for 150 years of Madras High Court

The Centre has submitted before the Madras High Court that the request for releasing a stamp to commemorate the court’s sesquicentennial (150 years) celebrations would be considered and favourable orders passed within a short time. The petitioner, Swaminathan of Besant Nagar, said for the centenary celebrations of Madras, Calcutta and Bombay High Courts in 1962, commemorative stamps were released. The celebration of 150 years of the Madras High Court commenced in November last year and it was the postal department’s duty to honour and commemorate the occasion, he said. The additional solicitor-general, G. Masilamani, said it was not possible to get permission for releasing a commemorative stamp within three days. But the matter would be considered by the Centre and favourable orders passed within a short time, he said.
