Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) leader Vijayakant on Sunday alleged that the Centre has done precious little to help Tamil Nadu which is facing a number of issues.
Explaining why he proposed to stick to his plan of holding a black flag demonstration against the Prime Minister, who is on a two-day visit to Tamil Nadu on Sunday and Monday, he said it was to focus on the failure of the United Progressive Alliance Government at the Centre on various counts.
It had not helped Tamil Nadu on any issue, including the Mullaperiyar dam dispute, the functioning of the Kudankulam atomic power station, Kachatheevu or attacks on Tamil fishermen, he said.

Speaking at the Christmas celebrations, organised at his party headquarters here, he said Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had started writing letters to the Centre on such issues on the lines of her predecessor M.Karunanidhi. “This has been of no use at all,” he said.
Referring to the appeal of Union Minister for Shipping G.K.Vasan to drop the proposed black flag demonstration on Monday, he wondered what the Centre had been doing for the past six months regarding the Mullaperiyar dispute even as the situation had started assuming grave proportions.
Lamenting that the people of Tamil Nadu were subjected to a lot of hardship during this year, he said the State government had hiked bus fare and raised the milk price, while the Centre increased the prices of petrol and diesel.
